The textbook is designed for children who speak Russian but live abroad. This is a manual on reading and writing. It contains forty lessons. Each lesson has a text and the exercises for comprehension, grammar and spelling. In the speech and mind of children living abroad the system of cases is usually represented fragmentarily. Therefore, in the manual you will find a significant number of exercises on the case forms. Another important grammar topic of the manual is the aspects and the tense forms of the Russian verbs. Also the textbook presents the exercises on the unstressed vowels, voiceless consonants, vocabulary words, the soft sign in different parts of speech, and the spelling of the personal verb endings. The exercises are based on the material of the text, and there are keys at the end of the textbook. The final assignment of each lesson is to write a summary of the text studied or a few words about yourself on a given topic. The texts are entertaining. They include the small texts about Russian history and culture, adapted stories, fairy tales, and poems by the contemporary Russian writers, the amusing and humorous articles from children's magazines and the texts written by children and adults specially for this book.
